The Red Oak, Quercus rubra, is a native shade tree to North America. Commonly called red oak but sometime called the northern red oak. It can reach heights of up to 50 feet and sometimes up to 75 feet in the forest. Red Oak is a great choice for shade, beauty, and along driveways and streets.

  • Full sun is the ideal condition for this tree, meaning it should get at least 6 hours of direct, unfiltered sunlight each day.

Soil Requirements

  • Slightly Acidic, loamy, moist, rich, sandy, well-drained, dry soils. It can tolerate drought conditions once established.
