Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum) can be found in almost every garden, and if not should be added.  There are various cultivars of red or green leaves, palmatum and dissectum.  The ‘Bloodgood’ variety which we grow has large deep red-purple leaves that turn an excellent red in fall.  It matures at 15-20 and is the most cold hardy of the red leaf varieties.
