Florida Dogwood (Cornus florida) can be found in almost every landscape in the Mid-Atlantic and is considered one of the best small flowering trees. White, red, or pink flowers are common on this tree depending on the cultivar and appear in April usually before the leaves. Normally a low branched tree with a rounded flat topped form and strong horizontal, tiered branching. The dark green leaves during summer turn an excellent reddish-purple color on fall. Small red fruits appear in September & October. Older bark can develop an alligator like apperance
